Indiana hospital margins remain highly depressed compared to nation, says state hospital association

Indiana hospitals are barely breaking even, the Indiana Hospital Association said Thursday, which one analyst called “simply unsustainable.”

Kaufman Hall, a Chicago-based health care management consulting firm, found that Indiana hospitals operated on a collective 0.9% operating margin in 2023, which is a “slight improvement” from 2022. The consulting firm didn’t include 2022 numbers in its report.
