MUNCIE — On the heels of the largest annexation in recent history, Muncie's population rose from 67,430 in 2000 to 70,085 in 2010, according to Census counts released on Thursday.

But that wasn't enough growth for the city to keep its ranking as the eighth largest place in Indiana.

Carmel and Fishers both more than doubled their populations, to 79,191 and 76,794, respectively, to catapult into eighth and ninth place, leaving Muncie at 10th.
