SCUFFY (Shelby County United Fund for You) supporters and organizers celebrated another successful campaign -- the organization's 58th -- at Wednesday's end-of-drive dinner. The celebration was well deserved: This year's drive raised more than $800,000, well over the campaign goal of $777,000.

The final tally was $800,238.65.

"Look at this number -- there's not a 7 in it," SCUFFY Executive Director Angie Davies said. "All I can say is, 'Wow.'"

Brian Baker, 2011-12 board president, used state statistics to emphasize how impressive SCUFFY's success is. Of the 62 United Way and United Fund organizations in Indiana, only 17 met or exceeded their drive goal in 2011, Baker said.

"We're 57-0, hopefully 58-0," he said before the total was announced.

SCUFFY also collects 96 percent of funds that are pledged, with only 4 percent not collected.

"The average is 10 percent to 12 percent" in Indiana, Baker said. "I just wanted to say, 'Well done.'"
