PRINCETON-Hansen Corp. spokesman Mike Watkins confirmed Friday the company is laying off 41 production employees beginning Monday due to seasonal and economic conditions.
Watkins said 26 of those 41 employees took a voluntary lay-off and will return to work after 28 days.
The 102-year-old Princeton company employs 328 people.
"We are in hopes that this is a short lived condition and that all laid off employees will be returning to work in the very near future," said Watkins. "It is not uncommon for us to have a small layoff during the late spring/early summer months due to our customers shutting down for vacations."
Hansen Corp. was founded in Princeton in 1907 by Julis W. Hansen, a German immigrant jeweler/watchmaker. He designed the first automatic bell ringing system at the request of a local high school principal. That product launched Hansen Manufacturing Company, Inc.
Hansen Corp. makes direct current motors, alternate current clock movements, synchronous motors and stepper motors used in applications for automotive, HVAC systems, instrumentation, office equipment, and medical equipment, according to the company's web site.
