Lawns are turning brown. The top soil is dry. And some of Dee Dilling’s flowers look like they’re dead – except for the blossom on the tip.

“This is June, and it feels like August,” said Dilling, co-president of the Master Gardeners Association of Tippecanoe County. “The yards look like August.”

Lafayette is about 4 inches shy of average precipitation through nearly the first six months of the year, according to the National Weather Service.
