INDIANAPOLIS - A new annual faculty salary shows professors at Indiana University have moved back ahead of those at Purdue University when it comes to salary.

But Purdue University administrator are quick to defend pay amounts for faculty as competition from institutions across the world increases.

Full professors at Indiana University earn an average of $128,400 after receiving about a 6 percent increase this year after a pay freeze was lifted. Full professors at Purdue, who had moved ahead of their IU counterparts a year earlier, earn an average of $125,100.

The American Association of University Professors released the faculty salary data on Monday. The highest-paid full professors in Indiana are at the University of Notre Dame, where professors at the private school earn $150,200 a year on average.
