ANDERSON — Affiliated Computer Services will hire another 300 people for its Anderson call center operation at the Flagship Enterprise Park, its parent company Xerox has announced. The new jobs will bring the number of ACS Inc. employees in Anderson to nearly 1,000.

“What we are seeing throughout the U.S. is a general increase in some of our contracts with our customers,” said Xerox spokesman Bill McKee. “We are ramping up activity now in at least five locations around the country, including Anderson.”

The 300 new jobs in Anderson are part of a nationwide expansion in which ACS Inc. is adding at least 2,000 jobs, McKee said.

McKee said he could not disclose the nature of new business that has led to the need to increase local jobs, but he said the majority of the work involves incoming calls from private-sector contracts.

A news release announcing the expansion said the new jobs would supply technical support and customer service calls to a leading wireless provider.

A leader in the call-service industry, Affiliated Computer Services employs 34,000 people in 150 call centers around the U.S., handling more than 1 million customer interactions a day in more than 20 languages.

The expansion comes just months after Xerox acquired ACS Inc. for $6.4 billion. McKee said the acquisition grows a segment of business for Xerox, traditionally known as a document company.

The call center has had a presence in Anderson for almost three years, and McKee said part of the success locally is attributable to “a great pool of applicants to go to and find potential hirees.”
