It would be one of the biggest public works projects undertaken in the history of East Central Indiana, certainly the most ambitious launched in the collective memory of many current residents.

And while most of Mounds Lake — a proposed 2,100-acre reservoir — would be in Madison County, a not-insignificant portion of the lake would wind along the current path of White River in Delaware County’s Salem Township, perhaps with its northernmost banks stretching into Mount Pleasant Township.

What might developers envision for the lake, which would follow the current route of the river into Anderson’s east side, putting that city’s not-terribly vibrant commercial area now dominated by Mounds Mall under water?

Beyond the recreational opportunities, envision the high-scale residential areas found in the immediate vicinity of Geist and Morse reservoirs. Now move those homes in your mind to Daleville, Chesterfield and other locations along the lake’s seven-mile length.
