Some Interstate 69 opponents are demanding that construction of the highway be shut down immediately, claiming the project has created “extremely dangerous traffic hazards” in Greene and Daviess counties.

Members of Citizens for Appropriate Rural Roads and representatives from the I-69 Accountability Project issued a news release Wednesday calling for Gov. Mitch Daniels to shut down the highway work “until these problems are investigated and remedied.”

Besides a concern for traffic safety, they cited erosion damage as a major problem that must be addressed. “I-69 work is creating conditions that have led to deaths, severe injuries and extreme damage to property and aquifers in Daviess and Greene counties,” the news release states.
