MUNCIE— A trucking company has signed an agreement to buy compressed natural gas (CNG) for at least a year from the city sanitary district’s new, $3 million fueling station.

After a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday, Phillip Gerrian of Fraley & Schilling, Rushville, said the location of the station is perfect for his 10 trucks a day that haul high calcium limestone from a quarry in Grant County to a manufacturer of roofing shingles in Brookville.

Engineer Mike Cline, vice president of the sanitary district’s board of commissioners, said CNG sales to the public will help repay the debt on the fueling station sooner. Storm water management fees imposed on property owners are repaying the bonds.

There will be no fee increase or sanitary district sewage rate increases  to pay for the fueling station or for 10 new CNG garbage trucks. The district is also buying CNG street sweepers.
