ANGOLA — The city has cleared the way for Trine University to proceed with its proposed Thunder Ice Arena.

The Angola Common Council acted on recommendations Monday from the Angola Plan Commission to rezone property in the 700 block of West Maumee Street and vacate Railroad and Saginaw streets. Both actions are needed for arena construction.

Trine is preparing to construct the 700-seat, 46,200-square-foot-Thunder Ice Arena. It will serve as the home of Trine’s men’s and women’s hockey teams that will play in NCAA Division III and a club league. The building is expected to open in fall 2017.
