SOUTH BEND — For the first time in nearly a century and a half, a wild black bear has been confirmed roaming northern Indiana.
According to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the agency received reliable reports of the wandering bear northwest of South Bend. The bear's presence was confirmed after a wildlife biologist examined waste material submitted to the DNR and identified it as bear scat.
