The Union County Health Clinic won a reprieve Monday when its nurse practitioner agreed to trim her hours so the clinic can continue to operate and build its patient base.

Nurse practitioner Kim Reffitt had submitted a letter of resignation to the health board and the county commissioners when it appeared she would be terminated because of a lack of funding.

On Monday, the health board offered to pay Reffitt for 48 hours of work in each two-week pay period, beginning in January. That change will reduce clinic hours to two or three days a week, down from four days a week.

Because Reffitt will be a part-time employee, the health department no longer will make pension payments or provide health insurance, which saves $24,000 a year, health board member Dr. Jeff Rhonemus said.
