No one who is paying attention should be surprised that the issue of an amendment banning gay marriage in the state of Indiana has resurfaced.

Disappointed, perhaps, but not surprised.

Having already gotten approval by both houses of the Republican-dominated General Assembly last year, the measure has to be approved in 2013 or 2014. Then voters would be allowed to weigh in on the resolution, which prohibits gay and lesbian couples from marrying or having any legal status "substantially similar" to marriage, in 2014. According to a recent report, House Republicans expect the proposed amendment will be considered and likely voted on during the 2013 session.
