Recreational vehicle wholesale shipments to retailers reached 35,929 units in February, a 13.9 percent increase over January and a 12.1 percent increase over this same month one year ago, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association. The number was the best February total in 39 years.

Through the first two months this year, shipments have reached 67,455 units, an 11.4 percent gain over this same two month period last year, the RVIA reported Tuesday.

The RVIA attributed the strong start to the year to increased employment and greater consumer discretionary income. The February total represents an annualized rate of more than 425,000 units, which is the best such annualized rate since late 2005.

For February over February 2015, travel trailer shipments were up 13.6 percent; fifth wheel shipments were up 5.3 percent; folding camping trailers were up 14.1 percent and truck camper shipments fell 5.9 percent. Class A motorhome shipments were up 16.3 percent, van camper shipments were down 9.7 percent and Class C motorhome shipments were up 21.9 percent.
