MUNCIE — Citing the crippling wave of crime due to heroin and meth use locally, law enforcement officials on Tuesday again sought funds to fight the problem.

"Heroin and meth have broken our backs," Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold told members of Delaware County Council as he alerted council he would be asking for two new deputy prosecutors and other personnel.

Council didn't act on Arnold's comments because the county's fiscal body didn't yet have a formal request from the prosecutor.

But council did agree to fund some requests from Sheriff Ray Dudley, including three new correctional officers for the jail.

"Jeff's right," Dudley told council members. "The drug problem is really bad in Delaware County and it will only get worse."
