Former Fort Wayne Deputy Mayor Mark Becker will take the helm of the Steuben County Economic Development Corp. on a temporary basis while the organization looks for a permanent director.

Becker, who also is the former CEO of Greater Fort Wayne Inc. and headed the foundation that provides financial support for the Northeast Indiana Regional Partership, now runs his own firm, Becker Consulting. The Steuben EDC announced the short-term appointment in a brief statement July 26.

Becker will fill the hole created when David Koenig, who was executive director of the Steuben EDC for more than four years, resigned July 21.

The Steuben EDC is seeking $700,000 from the Regional Development Authority, which administers the region’s Regional Cities funding, for the nearly $4-million Steuben Enterprise Center on the south side of Angola. Steuben’s presentation to the RDA scheduled July 19 was delayed after RDA staff said there were questions that needed to be answered before the request could be considered.

Becker served as deputy mayor of Fort Wayne under four different administrations, leaving that post in 2008.
