AUBURN — A French-built car brought the highest price in the Worldwide Auctioneers sale Saturday night.

An undisclosed buyer paid a $650,000 bid price for a 1938 Talbot-Lago Sport Cabriolet in dark blue with teardrop rear fenders. A 10 percent bidder’s premium was added to all sales.

The Auburn-based auction company offered 83 cars for bids inside the National Auto and Truck Museum. A final tally of sales was not available at press-time.

A cream-colored 1935 Auburn Boattail Speedster captured the second-highest sale price, reported at $445,500 including the 10 percent premium.

The auction’s priciest car, a 1934 Packard Twelve Convertible Sedan, attracted a bid of $1.3 million that its owner rejected as too low.

Other notable sales, not including bidder’s premium, were $155,000 for a 1965 Porsche 911, $142,000 for a 1969 Shelby convertible, $115,000 for a 1970 Porsche 911S Targa and $112,500 for a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang convertible.

A 2011 Ford Mustang Brenspeed Saleen, supercharged at a shop in Pierceton, sold for $40,000 to benefit the Next Gen Education Program.

Richard Rawlings of the “Fast N’ Loud” cable TV show sat in the front row at the sale and bought a 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle dragster for $15,000.
