Community Howard Regional Health will reduce its current workforce by 50 full-time equivalent positions over the next few weeks.
The layoffs are a result of lower patient numbers experienced by hospitals over the past few years and especially in 2013, officials said.
Howard Regional Health Systems merged in July 2012 with the Community Health Network. Community Howard Regional is the only hospital in the network that is reducing the number of employees.
Earlier this year Community Howard had 1,346 employees, so the reduction is approximately 4 percent.
