INDIANAPOLIS — The timeout in the Indiana House of Representatives will drag into next week — if not longer — Democrats announced Thursday.
House Minority Leader B. Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend, said in a phone call from Urbana, Ill., where Democrats have been staying since Tuesday, that his caucus won't return to the Statehouse this week. He added that members probably won't show up Monday either.
Bauer continued to call a suite of Republican-sponsored education and labor bills "an attack on the middle class."
House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, adjourned the chamber until Monday afternoon and remained firm that the Republicans won't "cut some backroom deal" with Bauer to bury those measures for the rest of the General Assembly's session.
