Bloomington had the third-highest number of Airbnb guest arrivals in the state this year, ranking just behind South Bend and quite a bit behind Airbnb’s No. 1 trending American city, Indianapolis.

Short-term rental website Airbnb released figures Tuesday showing Indiana Airbnb hosts earned $20.7 million and welcomed approximately 175,000 guests in 2017.

The number of guests seen this year represents a 108 percent growth over last year at Indiana’s nearly 3,600 host sites. Those hosts typically earn about $4,700 annually in supplemental income, according to the report, and 37 percent of those hosts are doing so by renting an empty room in their house.
