Kosciusko County is being added to the roster of northeast Indiana counties that are part of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.
“As a region, we want to be bigger, bolder and more assertive,” said Joe Pierce, the partnership’s board chairman. “With the addition of another member county, the partnership can continue to grow as a united, adaptable and collaborative region working to make northeast Indiana a magnet for business and talent.”
Kosciusko is the 11th member of the partnership, which already includes Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley counties.
The addition of Kosciusko, announced at a press conference Oct. 21, follows its decision earlier this year to join with other northeast Indiana counties in a bid for Regional Cities Initiative funding from the state, and the subsequent creation of a Regional Development Authority.
“We are impressed by the investment in collective success in northeast Indiana,” George Robertson, president of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., said in a statement. “Kosciusko’s global companies and skilled workforce are heavily connected to the quality of life assets in the Fort Wayne area, so it makes perfect sense that we would combine forces with the partnership and its 10 regional counties.”
The Kosciusko County Commissioners, Kosciusko County Council and the Warsaw City Council all approved Kosciusko’s alignment with northeast Indiana.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is expected to award $84 million in matching Regional Cities grants to two RDAs by the end of this year.
