A new law that limits the number of credits required to graduate from Indiana's public colleges could affect dozens of Purdue University degrees.

The law is part of Gov. Mitch Daniels' agenda to cut down so-called credit creep, when additional credits are imposed on majors and minors, requiring students to stay in school longer and pay more.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education now has authority to disapprove of majors that exceed 120 credits and minors that require more than 60 credits if the programs don't qualify for exceptions.
