GOSHEN — Recreational vehicle shipments have continued to show a strong rebound in the industry.

May’s shipment numbers, released Friday by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, show an 83.5 percent increase over last May with 24,400 units shipped. The increase is in line with numbers from throughout the year, which are nearly double those of 2009.

By May of 2009, only 57,000 units had shipped, compared to 108,900 in the same period this year.

Shipments were largely unchanged from April, with the biggest action in folding camping trailers, which shipped 300 fewer units, and type C motorhomes, which shipped 200 more units. Overall units shipped were down 200 units from April.

Making by far the biggest comeback since the bottom dropped out of the industry are type A or “conventional” motor homes, shipments of which have increased nearly 200 percent over May of 2009.
