City officials will travel to Indianapolis this week to get their marching orders for the next phase of the Stellar Communities grant competition.

Mayor Sally Hutton learned late Monday that the city is one of six finalists for the state’s community development grants. In the past two years, the Stellar Communities grant project has awarded $40 million total to four communities over two years.

“This is a great opportunity for us and, obviously, we’re thrilled,” Hutton said Tuesday. “I think it shows that the state appreciates the work we’ve done and the work we’re planning.”

Hutton, city Metropolitan Development director Tony Foster and others will travel to the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority on Thursday to learn when city officials will visit Richmond for the final phase of the competition.
