SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Commissioners this morning voted unanimously against a property tax increase to fund bridge work.

The resolution would have raised the tax rate for the county's Major Cumulative Bridge Fund, which has dwindled since its creation in 1984.

Under the proposal, the owner of a $100,000 property would have seen a tax increase of $5 per year, while the owner of a $200,000 property would have paid about $14 more a year.
