Fulton County Commissioners took a step toward realizing dreams of an ethanol plant here Monday by naming a redevelopment commission.
The panel will be composed of Terry Lee, Virgil “Dee” Williams, Bob Peterson, County Councilman Mike Gearhart and County Commissioner Roger Rose. Their first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Fulton County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The council, commissioners and the Fulton County Advisory Plan Commission also convene at the same time for a joint ethanol session.
Indiana Renewable Fuels President Glen Bode asked the county to appoint redevelopment and economic development commissions and to designate a Tax Incremental Financing District for a proposed ethanol plant in northern Fulton County.
Indiana Renewable Fuels is a group of 34 investors planning to build a 100-million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant. The group has agreed to use County Line Landfill methane gas as a power source for its cookers. It has sought estimates for road improvements.
In December, it asked the county for a $10 million loan and 20-year tax abatement.
Accountants from H.J. Umbaugh have been asked to examine the county’s bonding ability to help the ethanol investors.
