In a turnabout extraordinaire, public school teachers will be evaluated and rated by their districts annually starting next school year.

They won’t get letter grades, but will be placed into one of four categories, ranging from “highly effective” to “ineffective.”

Stephanie Sample, a spokeswoman with the Indiana Department of Education, said school districts won’t be required to share teachers’ ratings with parents. However, the state will release the results by school and corporation without the teachers’ names attached.
