Glenda Ritz, Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction, says she’s ready to embark on changing the system, including student assessment measures.

At an education forum Tuesday, Ritz spoke about her objectives and answered questions submitted by the crowd of 60 people who attended the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce event.

On student assessment, Ritz was critical of required pass or fail tests like ISTEP and suggested assessment that would not be all multiple choice. The assessments Ritz hopes to implement would be taken three times each year and offer growth measures. With these kinds of assessments, “you really know where students are,” Ritz stated.
