SOUTH BEND -- Two South Bend lawmakers believe a newly introduced Senate bill could open the door to selling or leasing the South Shore railroad.

But Sen. Robert Jackman, R-Milroy, who wrote the proposed legislation, said his goal in introducing Senate Bill 14 is to find a way to build new passenger and freight railways in Indiana and not to affect northern Indiana's sole commuter railway.
