A national outdoor retailer that doubles as a tourist attraction is coming to Greenwood.

Cabela's, which bills itself as the world's foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will be built in Greenwood, according to a construction management company.

In other locations, Cabela's stores come with hotels and indoor water parks. The retail stores attract up to 4 million visitors per year.

S.M. Wilson & Co., a construction management firm, said on its Web site that it has been selected to oversee the construction of a Cabela's in Greenwood.

A spokesman for Cabela's said he could not comment until next week.

The Greenwood City Council and two city economic development groups have scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a special meeting of all three boards at 6 p.m.

Cabela's retail stores typically offer more than 100,000 square feet of store space and museum-quality exhibits.

"At most of our stores you'll find indoor mountains teeming with museum-quality wildlife taxidermy displays, huge aquariums, restaurants, and gun libraries," according to the company.
