Aisin Chemical to expand Crothersville line and hire 37

Brandy Emily, Tribune

CROTHERSVILLE — Aisin Chemical Indiana announced Monday it will expand its liquid applied sound dampening product line by building a 72,000-square-foot manufacturing facility adjacent to its current operations in the Crothersville Industrial Park.

Town Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for the $9 million investment by ACIN during a special meeting Monday night at Town Hall.

The company manufactures friction material components used in automatic transmissions, along with liquid applied sound dampening material used in vehicles to reduce noise and vibration, according to a news release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The expansion will create up to 37 new jobs by 2013 and retain the company’s current 30 employees. The company plans to begin hiring manufacturing and supervisory associates later this year, according to the news release.

Construction on the expansion is expected to begin in June and to be completed by Jan. 1, 2011, according to the Statement of Benefits provided by the company. The plant is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2011, according to the news release.

Jim Plump, director of Jackson County Industrial Development Corp., also told council of a $200,000 grant from the city of Lawrenceburg for the expansion of Industrial Way to the new manufacturing facility.

Plump said the city of Lawrenceburg has granted $1.8 million to Jackson County for various projects.

“Lawrenceburg is a pretty good friend of Jackson County,” Plump said.

In addition to the 10-year tax abatement from the Town of Crothersville, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered ACIN up to $165,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $36,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans, Plump said.
