SANTA CLAUS — Tourism businesses in Spencer County are gearing up for the peak summer season with additions and enhancements totaling nearly $6 million.

“It’s fantastic to see ongoing tourism investments from local businesses,” said Melissa Brockman, executive director of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau. “New lodging options and continuously improved attractions illustrate how the tourism industry continues to be a strong asset for Spencer County.”

Tourism investments for 2016 include:

• The Legend is “reborn” at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari with track improvements to the wooden roller coaster, plus the addition of a new “double-down” feature to further enhance the ride experience.  

Lincoln State Park invested in infrastructure improvements throughout the park.

• Corner House Bed & Breakfast added a wedding ceremony and reception site on its property in the country near Rockport.

• The Santa Claus Museum & Village purchased the Town of Santa Claus’s first firetruck, Rudolph, to display at the village.

• Blackhawk Creek and The Holiday House, both newly renovated homes, opened as vacation rentals.

• Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort added 20 new Holiday Cottages and 20 new rental golf cars, and updated Wi-Fi for the entire campground.

• Christmas Lake Golf Course & Events Center upgraded the landscaping, added monthly entertainment and updated menu selections.

• Santa’s Cottages constructed two new cottages and a shelter house, plus other enhancements.

• The Rockport Comfort Inn & Suites updated the café and lobby area, along with other improvements.

• Holiday Drive-In improved its facility and will add a sixth viewing screen.

• Santa’s Lodge replaced 100 TVs with flat-screen models.

• Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum is reconstructing a replica of the Crawford cabin; the original was owned by family friends of the Lincoln family.

• The City of Rockport is creating an Art Park downtown to be used for art fairs, music festivals and more.
