ANDERSON — A three-year tax abatement has been approved for a home health care company locating in the former Social Security Administration building in downtown Anderson.

The Anderson City Council voted unanimously to approve two tax abatement requests for the home health care company and the opening of a new real estate office.

Greg Winkler, director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said BOCA Holdings, doing business as Healing Hands, purchased the building at 216 E. 9th St., which has an assessed value of $92,400.

He said the company intends to hire 33 people by the end of the year with an average salary of $23.21 per hour. Winkler said the company hopes to add more than 100 jobs in the future.

The three-year tax abatement will save the company $5,500.

Company president Tim Paul said in March the company, which provides Medicare and Medicaid home health care, will hire five employees immediately with a combined annual salary of $241,000.

“Our current company in Indianapolis has 600 employees,” Paul said. “We hope to see the same growth in Anderson. This is a good market.”

The council approved a three-year tax abatement for BEZ Properties to revitalize a building at 602 Jackson St. for a real estate firm.

Winkler said the company is investing $60,000 in the building and will save $3,400 in taxes over the three years.

Levi Busby said the company has invested $50,000 currently in the building. He said the company plans to create up to three new jobs.

IN OTHER BUSINESS

The council passed through three readings an ordinance providing a three-year residential tax abatement for Tony and Kimberly Miller.

The Millers are constructing a $234,370 home in the Apple Downs subdivision.

The Millers said they were downsizing from their previous home in Anderson and liked the Apple Downs subdivision.
