Highland gets new redevelopment director

Charles F. Haber, Times of Northwest Indiana Correspondent

HIGHLAND — A longtime town official will soon be on the job as its new redevelopment director.

The Redevelopment Commission/Town Council voted 4-0 on Tuesday to hire Kathy DeGuilio-Fox as the town's second full-time director.

She will replace Cecile Petro, who recently retired after 12 years on the job.

DeGuilio-Fox, who currently serves on the Highland sanitary board, was also a redevelopment commissioner until the council took it over earlier this year after not renewing the expiring terms of the former commissioners.

Commission President/Town Councilman Bernie Zemen, D-1st, said DeGuilio-Fox has accepted the offer, adding that the approval is contingent upon agreeable terms being worked out.

She would begin work after giving notice to her current employer, Zemen said.

DeGuilio-Fox was a redevelopment commissioner for more than 20 years and served multiple terms as its president.

She was part of the commission that oversaw the downtown revitalization project, including the new streetscapes on Highway Avenue, Jewett Street and Kennedy Avenue.

"I want to thank (commission assistant) Lance Ryskamp ... for doing a bang-up job holding things together as the commission searched for a new director," Commissioner/Town Council President Dan Vassar, D-3rd, said.

Commissioner/Clerk-Treasurer Michael Griffin said 29 people initially tossed their hats into the ring for the position.
