Warrick County’s highly touted Victoria National Golf Club — founded by the late Terry Friedman and opened in 1998 – has been acquired by a group of private investors, based in Jacksonville, Fla., along with adjacent recreational land.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

The golf club, ranked No. 24 in the nation by Golf Digest, was owned by the Friedman family.

In a news release by the purchaser, Victoria Partners LLC, it was noted the family sought an investor to ensure the dream of its founder lives on and thrives for its members, the community and the golf community at large.

“As you know, in this struggling economy and real estate market, this investment represents a very good thing for the Evansville area, Southern Indiana and Victoria National’s members,” said Barry Vaughn, chief executive officer of The Suddath Companies, an investment partner.

“The transfer of ownership and management was an acknowledgment by the Friedman family that in order for Terry’s dream to be fully realized, it would take significant investment as well as experience to develop the real estate and lodging component necessary to take the next step.”

The Victoria Partners was described as “a unique joint venture between The Suddath Companies, a diversified, cooperative group of domestic and international service companies, and Landology, a Florida-based real estate owner/operator that invests in mixed use, multifamily, commercial land and value-add real estate properties.

Together, Suddath and Landology say they provide the needed experience and investment.

Designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio, Victoria National also is ranked No. 1 Best in the State from 2007-2010 by Golf Digest.

It hosted the 2008 Rolex Tournament of Champions, the Indiana State Amateur Championship and the 2006 USGA Senior Amateur Championship.
