Marion residents looking forward to new stores

Mishele Wright, Chronicle-Tribune

Local residents are looking forward to having more options when it comes to retail in Marion, especially on the south end of the city.

Hobby Lobby, PetSmart and T.J. Maxx will open this fall in the University Marketplace near 38th Street on Western Avenue.

The stores will join Meijer and Kohl’s, which are both already driving traffic to the south end of the Bypass.

Courtney Calvert, store manager at Kohl’s, said she thinks the addition of the three new retailers with help business at her store.

“I’m definitely excited for the growth that it’s going to bring this way,” she said. “They’ll be open by Christmas, which is a good thing. It’ll bring more traffic our way and not really any competition.”

A groundbreaking for the three stores is at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
