ANDERSON — For several years, Chrysler vehicle owners and devotees have had to drive to Muncie or Indianapolis to purchase or service a car at a Chrysler dealership.
Now they can do that right here in Anderson.
Ed Martin held a grand-opening celebration on Thursday for its new facility that will offer sales, services and parts for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles.
“We felt the city missed the presence of Chrysler,” said Brian Burke, the general manager for the new dealership. “Chrysler was here seven years ago. And still there are several thousand registered (Chrysler) drivers here.”
Construction on the new facility began in late October. It now employs 15 people and has 150 new and used cars on its lot, Burke said.
The building has 16,500 square feet, said Frank Owens, the city’s municipal development director. It includes floor-to-ceiling windows, a children’s play area, a break room and waiting area with snacks and seating and indoor displays of its latest vehicle models.
“It’s really customer-friendly with its openness,” said sales associate Jeremy Greer. “We have a nice service area, complimentary drinks and coffee. It is built for the customer to be comfortable.”
The new building is part of a $7.5 million renovation and expansion project at Ed Martin. A second segment of the endeavor is the replacement of the old Chevrolet and Cadillac building that pre-dated Ed Martin’s purchase of the property. A new 44,000-square-foot Chevy Cadillac store is under construction and scheduled to open in the summer or fall.
A Toyota dealership also opened at Ed Martin in 2009.
