Indiana initiates talks with Amtrak alternative for Indianapolis-Chicago route

Indiana and elected leaders of communities served by the Hoosier State passenger rail line have begun talks with Chicago-based Corridor Capital LLC to take on the line now operated by Amtrak, the Indiana Department of Transportationannounced Monday.

"Indiana DOT and Corridor Capital are now in discussions towards an agreement for a changeover in operations commencing October 1, 2014," Corridor Capital stated in a press release.

Corridor Capital LLC was one of four private companies that, along with Amtrak, previously submitted bids to provide part or all of the service on the 196-mile route between Indianapolis and Chicago.

The bids were ranked by Robert Zier, INDOT director of multimodal planning and programs; Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski; Venetta Keefe, INDOT senior rail planner; and Mike Riley, manager of INDOT's rail office.

Corridor Capital LLC was selected over Amtrak, Iowa Pacific Holdings, Herzog Transit Services and Travel Train Holdings.
