Retail renovation and construction projects sometimes fall behind schedule.

Even the best contractors can run into unforeseen issues that cause delays and inevitably alter projected completion dates. For this reason, business owners often are hesitant to release tentative opening dates too early.

And the larger the project, the greater the chance delays can happen.

Except in the case of University Park Mall.

In fact, the multimillion-dollar interior renovation at the 1-million-square-foot Mishawaka shopping center is ahead of schedule. Really ahead of schedule.

"It looks like everything will be done this fall, definitely," says Irene McKiernan, director of marketing and business development at University Park.

And a handful of new tenants, including RueGuy, Forever Young, Warm Tidings and Sassy's by Indulgence restaurant, have opened their doors or are almost ready.
