Four companies received tax abatement continuations Monday night from Crawfordsville’s city council.

Crown Cork and Seal, R.R. Donnelley, Main Street Crawfordsville, and Closure Systems International were scheduled for renewals on their abatements.

Crawfordsville assesses the tax abatements it distributes on a yearly basis. As part of those assessments, city officials visited the four companies prior to Monday night’s meeting.

“We appreciate what our businesses do for our city,” Fiscal Affairs Chairman Andy Biddle said. “We want them to continue on and we want to help them however we can.”

Crown Cork and Seal is in the fourth year of a seven-year tax abatement on manufacturing equipment, which is still in use.

R.R. Donnelley recently obtained equipment from another facility. It currently employs 1,043 people at its local facility and is looking to fill 53 open positions.

Main Street Crawfordsville opened its facility in November 2013. It currently has 42 employees and projects to create more than 100 total jobs. Its capital investment estimates at $13.2 million.

CSI is in the ninth year of two tax abatements on manufacturing equipment dating back to 2005. It also is in the third and fourth years of two separate tax abatements on personal property. It has tripled the projected investment in equipment and will soon fill 25 job openings.
