Saturday Roseview Transit bus service is returning to the city next year.

City director of Public Works Greg Stiens said the service is budgeted and will return Jan. 1.

“There will not be service (on Saturdays) for the rest of this year but it will be back in 2015. We believe it’s an important service for this community,” Stiens said.

Saturday bus service was cut in June because of rising costs for Roseview Transit. Daily fares were also increased by 25 cents and monthly passes by $5.

Richmond Mayor Sally Hutton said Roseview is in the process of getting monthly costs, particularly overtime costs, under control and will bring back the service next year.

“We know how important it is to our citizens,” she said. “We had a bad year last year. People were out sick and the overtime costs exploded. That should not be the case this year.”

Stiens came to the Richmond Common Council on Monday night asking members to approve an application for a $1.036 million grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration to be used for Roseview operating and capital expenses.
