Granite Student Living, if nothing else, knows how to get attention, and its managers know marketing.

On Monday, crews installed a 10-foot banana sculpture at the northwest corner of State Street and Andrew Place in West Lafayette, and it’s not to encourage healthy eating habits. The banana is Granite’s logo.

“It really boils down to: We like to have fun,” office manager Joel Brovont said.

“Both cities seem to be coming ... around to the art stuff,” he said, citing sculptures at Faith West and in front of Greyhouse Coffee in West Lafayette. “We’ve been impressed by that stuff.”

Inspired by the support of public art — and of course, marketing the properties Granite oversees — Brovont said the management team decided to put up the sculpture after getting permission from the property owner.
