Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health announced Monday that it will close the ER at St. Elizabeth Central next week.

The doors will permanently close at 10 p.m. Sept. 3 at the St. Elizabeth Central Emergency Care Center. Afterward, emergency services will only be provided at St. Elizabeth East, 1701 S. Creasy Lane in Lafayette.

The move announced in April was driven by ongoing financial changes in health care, said Terry Wilson, Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health regional president and CEO.

No employees were terminated because of the consolidation, said spokeswoman Lisa Decker. The health system is hiring nurses to staff an urgent care center that will open in late September in the vacant ER space.
