TELL CITY – The Tell City Common Council has given its final approval to a tax-abatement request by a local employer expanding one of its manufacturing lines.

The city council adopted a confirmatory resolution Aug. 5 granting Parker Hannifin’s request to abate improvements that include $4.1 million in equipment that will be invested in the Tell City plant. The abatement allows property taxes on the company’s investment to be phased in gradually over 10 years. The decision would have no impact on the property taxes the company is already paying on its existing assets.

During July’s meeting, Parker Hannifin project manager Steve Callas said the plant, which operated under the Commercial Filters name for many years and produces a variety of filter products, has seen sales double on one of its major product lines. Company officials considered moving the line outside the U.S. but agreed to keep it in Tell City.
