SOUTH BEND -- On the heels of a July layoff of 35 workers, Curtis Products recently gave workers a 10 percent pay cut, several workers confirmed Thursday.

Earlier this year, the company moved into the old Bendix Corp. headquarters on South Bend's west side. It purchased the facility for $1.1 million but also received credit for $52,000 at closing for shared management costs as an incentive to close on the building earlier, Chris Fielding, assistant executive director of community investment for the city of South Bend, said. The sale closed in January, he said.

David Heckaman, co-owner and president of Curtis Products, said he would not talk about wages in a phone interview Thursday with The Tribune. Heckaman did confirm, however, that the company is having its share of challenges that need to improve soon or there could be shutdowns in the next two to three months.
