ELWOOD — The push to turn Cattails Golf Course back into an 18-hole course sputtered out at an Elwood City Council meeting Monday night.

The privately owned course, which sold off nine of its holes in 2013, is currently operating as a nine-hole course. Some residents and the city of Elwood wanted to change that, but in order to do so, had to bring the course into the city’s boundaries.

That meant annexing the land and the surrounding neighborhood known as Forest Park. The resolution to annex the area was killed Monday night by the City Council.

Before the vote, the council received a petition from Randy Simmons, an Elwood resident, with signatures of homeowners in the annexation area against the resolution. Simmons claimed he had 75 percent of the property owners on the petition, more than enough to remonstrate.

Citing the petition and a lack of a business plan on how to proceed once the annexation would have been passed, council member Todd Jones voted to deny the annexation. His motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

As of now, Cattails will remain a nine-hole course.
