ALEXANDRIA – KeyBank said it is closing a local branch by the end of the year.

The branch, 101 N. Harrison St., is consolidating with its Anderson branch at 800 Main St., Suite 10, on Dec. 5.

“All employees at the Alexandria location have been invited to apply for open positions at other nearby branches,” said Kimberly Kowalski, KeyBank regional communications manager.

Kowalski was unable to provide employment numbers for the branch, but said no one will lose their job.

“KeyBank is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our clients,” she said in an email. “Key will contact each client to advise them of the consolidation and how Key will service their accounts going forward.”

Rachel Hull, owner of Frosting & Crust, 102 N. Harrison St., said the KeyBank branch is sandwiched between two other banks across the street from her.

“I just heard about it today from a customer that banks there,” Hull said of the closing. “It’s sad to see businesses close and I hate to hear that.”

This is the only site in Indiana the bank plans to close before January. After the consolidation, the company will have 65 branches in the state.

“The decision to consolidate was based on consumer traffic,” Kowalski said. “As communities change, the Alexandria location has seen many of its customers shift their business to other KeyBank branches that are located near this office, such as the Anderson branch.”
