The Argylls is trademarked property now that the Madison-Grant Schools board has voted to approve trademarking each school in the district and their mascots.
The Madison-Grant United School Corporation, Madison-Grant High School, Madison-Grant Argylls, Madison-Grant Junior High School, Park Elementary School, Park Eagles, Summitville Elementary School and the Summitville Goblins were all recommended for trademarking.
“In our discussion, we determined we would concentrate on enforcement in the social media area,” said Superintendent John Trout. “I have had to address individuals starting a Madison-Grant Facebook page that portrays that this site was supported and operated by the school district. It took us several attempts to find a name for our Facebook that was not already taken by someone else. Many times the information being shared on these other Facebook pages was not accurate and did not have the support of the district.”
Trout said the district would not enact trademarking guidelines for local community teams to use. They would be primarily used for social media and apparel related concerns.
“By trademarking our names, this is just one example of how this will assist the district,” he said. “We do not desire to have our local youth leagues, apparel items from local vendors go through this process. The school board appreciates all of the hard work that these organizations do for the students of our district.”
