Downtown Daleville's redevelopment effort is already getting under way, and the plan isn't even finalized yet.

An early version of the proposed plan to revitalize the town's downtown district with new and renovated buildings, businesses, sidewalks and park around the Ind. 32/Walnut Street intersection was presented to the public Aug. 28. A final version is expected to be provided for Daleville Town Council's consideration this fall.

Rather than wait until then and risk losing an opportunity, however, Daleville officials on Thursday sought the support of the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission to buy an available property that would be key to the project.

The commission approved a purchase agreement at the appraised property value of $70,000, subject to an appraisal and legal consultation, for a Walnut Street building just north of the railroad tracks and an L-shaped series of connected properties alongside and behind it.
